Potter Pooper

For all those rabid Harry Potter fans who also read my blog and know of my general apathy towards all things Potter, you will be pleased to know that HP is Crichton's new obsession. Daddy took him to see #6 (and let him take his homemade wand). Jedi Robes are now Hogwart's Robes. There are several pairs of lensless glasses in my house. Both children have lightning shaped marker marks on their foreheads (though Canon is usually Draco Malfoy because he's blond and evil). Crichton downloaded an HP demo on XBOX live (I don't even know how one does that). Canon keeps saying "INgardia EviOHSA" though he still seems confused that the magic wand is not a light saber and I get frequents complaints that, "CANON HIT ME WITH HIS SWORD UH WAND!" While simply checking the pronunciation of the killing curse, we realized that Wikipedia has a list of all the HP spells. We now have a binder with 34 pages of spells (yay us), though mostly they shout "STUPIFY" at each other.

I'm going to see if I can convince him to READ the books to me/with me.

Also. I have not bought Canon diapers in a week. Mostly we're playing like big boy underwear are cloth diapers. We pee in the potty if we are reminded hourly, but poop ... no go. Why am I saying "we" ... I'll have you know I am pooping and peeing in the potty perfectly!

Camera still lost - no pictures of Harry and Draco. Sad. But also, no poop pictures, so that's a blessing, really, right?

Also, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, internet, we ought not have naughty pictures based around children's movie on the internet. I am VERY disappointed in you!

I got my students to eat their lunch veggies by calling them "Harry Potter Broccoli" and "Gryffindor Cauliflower."

shrug . . . whatever works, right?

Your children are brilliant! If and when I have children, they will be hearing Harry Potter as bedtime stories from DAY 1. I told my sister that I was going to make scarves for her kids that matched what house I thought they each should be in and she was OUTRAGED.."YOU are not SORTING my children!" :)

I'll confess to being ambivelent about HP. Heck, I've only listened to the first book as a book on tape (it's really well done though- maybe you could try that with the kids?)

My twins are old enough to start reading the books now so perhaps we'll just come late to the party.

I'm also ambivelent about Twilight. Read the book, didn't see the movie. Probably won't see the new movie. See? I'm so not going with the trends!

One thing that I had read/heard about the HP books when they first came out was that they helped get boys 'back interested' in reading. As if reading was a girls-only activity! In any case, glad to hear that your boys are enjoying the movie/books, etc. As for me, I read the first one, saw the first couple of movies, and meh. But then again, I am a 19th Centuryist at heart.

So Olivia and I are currently listening to Little Women in the car and she is mesmerized. She also loves Alice in Wonderland and the popup versions of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (the book by L. Frank Baum, written in 1900) as well as the Judy Garland movie.....so I guess I am influencing her in my direction. But I refuse to show her Disney Princess movies and I also cut red and yellow peppers crosswise into circles and tell her that spiderman wants her to eat her spiderwebs. She wears boys underwear under her dresses that "fly" (spin around) while she shows her dolls how to play trains.

Like Kim says, whatever works.

I'm ashamed to say that I know someone who makes wands (this is no joke, he is a ridiculously huge HP fan, I don't get it at all). So if you ever want to purchase a wand for your boys, let me know. I don't know what the going rate is these days but I could probably find out.
If your husband or anyone you know is good with wood working though, it would be kind of fun to have him make a want for each and send it in the mail to them (return address- Hogworts.) They will feel so special.
I love childhood! What a magical time....

I meant to say "make a wand" not "make a want"- gesesh- and I want to teach!....

Yup... you can find naughty "pictures" of just about any character, especially an animated one. People can be strange. The worst aspect is that according to some reports, they can be used by some perverts to lure children into their web. Sick.

Otherwise, I can't understand why someone will find those illustrations "interesting" when there are pictures/movies of real people (no matter how altered) so easy to find. Not that I would endorse any of it. It is just strange.

I've been considering reading my kids the HP series. We're working on the Chronicles of Narnia first...that's lighter than the Voldemort and death eaters stuff (they're ages 2, 5 --the twins-- and 7).

PS: I cleaned poop out of our 2 yr olds pants today and he's not even officially potty training yet. I'm wondering if I could just hire a nanny for that?
