If I haven't yet inspired you to run around a bit, perhaps if you see how easy the Couch to 5K schedule is, you will want to give it the old college try. I'm struggling through week 7 now. STRUUUUUUUUUUUggling. But it sure makes the first 5 weeks seem ridiculously easy peasy.
You might also be interested to know that:
The 5K is the most popular race to run. All us cool kids are doing it (well, I haven't actually run 5K yet, but, y'know, I WILL).
Professional runners train barefoot.
I'm having the dickens of a time running for 20+ solid minutes. I did it once, I know I can do it, but I keep wimping out.
Both the heels of my feet are cracked. It hurts to walk. Maybe I need profession running shoes.
Shampoo is a crock. You don't need to shampoo every day, every other day, maybe ever. Water. But I like the creamy lather and yummy smell. So, I'll keep paying. I did give up soap though. For Body Wash. MAN! Those marketing guys are good.
Laptop battery dying ... plug in down 1.5 flights ... time for a nap I guess.
4 Brilliant Bits of Inspiration:
My hairdresser, or rather hairdresser before I started my 'recession hairdo' (growing out hair) told me not to wash my hair daily, even though I love washing my hair. She said it dries out my hair and scalp and at the most I only need to do it every other day.
With the running you're doing, you probably should get some good running shoes to take good care of those feets!
My heels crack a lot. The only thing I've found to help once the crack is already there is Lansinoh Lanolin Ointment- the kind you buy in the little, purple tube in the breastfeeding section. It really sinks in and helps the skin heal. Dave also recommends super gluing the crack closed and then using the Lansinoh ointment.
I have a great deal of respect for you struggling through and remaining committed! Good job! Maybe someday you'll inspire me to start training towards something like a 5k (not today though!).
How can they run barefoot? Doesnt that kill their arches? I am so excited for you!
Make sure you mention it in every conversation.."well, I'm a runner". I always feel such a sense of awe and respect when someone says that!
Absolutely get some great running shoes. It's important. For your feet and for the rest of your body. As a bodyworker, I am telling you it is imperitive to treat your feet well. It can throw off your knees, hips, back and neck. Good shoes are key.
I am so glad that you are enjoying your running. It's so much fun. Do you have a specific race that is your goal? You are on week Seven right? You could run in the 'Running for Angels' race in two weeks. (if you haven't read that book, it's a good one.) Maybe I will see you there at the race.
keep it up. It's worth it. I promise.
