What About Those Who DO Pay Their Mortgages?

I think it was Glen Beck, I was listening to. Glen Beck, who pimped his show between sessions of General Conference, who taught my kid to say "[whatever] can go to hell," stupid, fat, "token" Mormon guy, Glen Beck. He was complaining about the government helping out people who got stuck with mortgages they can't afford. Whining about how unfair it is to the rest of us who have been saving, budgeting, working extra jobs, reading the fine print, doing all we ought to to keep a roof over the heads of our family.

That's my interpretation of what he said, my husband will verify that sometimes my head filters things a little wrong.

HOWEVER, if this is the gist of what he said, I have two reactions. The first goes like this: Hey, yeah, that DOES suck - My husband's been working hard, I had to get a night job, get and give help to family, how come Uncle Sam's gonna help the stupid, lazy people who took things they didn't earn, signed at the dotted line, and I just have to keep on keeping on?! THAT'S NOT FAIR!!!

The second reaction is more like this. Helping someone, even if they made bad choices to get them where they are, doesn't take away from the benefits you got from working hard and not needing help. Please don't jump to the "but they're using my tax dollars" argument. If you could help out your neighbor and his family, you know you would. In my mind, there's very little I would rather the government use my tax dollars for than to help families. Beats the heck out of making rich bankers richer.

I just want to reiterate, just in case there might be confusion: I don't have any authority to speak for the LDS church, but Mr. Always On TV and Radio Glen Beck doesn't either. There ARE people who do. But don't think we all think like Glen Beck thinks just cuz he has a really big soap box.
