19 days until I become a mother for the third time. I have a new ultrasound picture, as my substitute doctor (official doctor in Guatemala on a humanitarian doctor trip) wanted to do a quick ultra sound, as she is measuring small. Amniotic fluid levels good. Baby girl is still kicking hard. 19 days to go.
I got a fancy new waffle iron (I ruined one and broke another, but waffles are my favorite and my best, if very difficult. PLUS, husband dear even used the new waffle iron and the waffles were huge and fluffy and round and glorious. AND he made me a spectacular steak, salad, baked potato dinner, with strawberry cheesecake for dessert. It's taken 6 years, but I think he's getting the hang of how to make the mother of his children happy on mother's day. Mostly, it's food related. Those truffles ... mmm ... how ever will I repay him?
Still "discussing" girl child names. Poor little sweetie. I can not even wait to look into her sweet little eyes and say hello face to face. I am so happy to be having a girl child. Heaven help me ... I adore her already! But what to call her. My current favorites: SaraJane and Ananova. His current favorite: Sagan Trillian. Every movie and show I watch, I sit through all the credits, looking for inspiration. Sigh ... was there ever a more difficult creative challenge than naming your daughter? How have people managed? I totally had my boys' names picked out long before this point, but my girl ... it must be feminine but strong, unusual, but not freakish, it has to be perfect.
HAPPY MOTHER's DAY y'all.
3 Brilliant Bits of Inspiration:
My SIL is also pregnant and scheduled for a c-section on June 5. She wanted 6/7/08, but that's a Saturday so no dice.
Anyway, I just wanted to pass along some of her names that she considered and/or is using, because she's into uniqueness and literary reference.
Here they are:
Huxley (I've never read any of his books)
Quinn
Emerson
Harper (for Harper Lee)
Carson (for Carson McCullers)
Her first baby is named Finley Reid. Finley is an old old boys name that she liked.
Personally, I loved the name Alice for my little one, but my husband loved Serena or Olivia. Everyone told me Serena was too ghetto (which I think reflects a racist attitude). It kinda ruined it for us. I also heard that the name sounded like someone who lives in New Jersey and is married to someone named Dino. (My husband comes from there and actually has an uncle named that!). People also said Alice was too trashy...I guess there was some old show with a waitress named Alice. I, however, thought it implied Alice in Wonderland. I wasn't keen on Olivia since it's so popular.
Anyway, I can understand your indecision. When I went in to have her, we actually had four possible names for her (alice, olivia, julia, and eleanor). The poor thing went nameless for three days until the hospital told us that she would be listed as 'baby girl" on her birth certificate and we would have to go to the county and modify it later. Too much hassle so we bore down and chose a name. I was thisclose to naming her Alice, but when I looked into her eyes she was just an Olivia, so we went with that one. I guess it does have a bit of a literary reference (the kids book you know, which I think it's more than a little obnoxious).
Anyway, this long aside to say that maybe you should wait to see her before you decide. Or not. You should follow your heart.
Also, like you I wanted a strong, yet feminine name. I really like SaraJane (Jane was one of the names I really liked, but it didn't go with my husband's last name, which is Donahue). My friend also chose Grace, which I thought was kinda nice. I also liked Lily, but my husband was adamant 'no flower names!' And I recently heard hte name Annabelle and kinda liked it.
I forgot that I wanted to share my family's names too. We have a Catherine (me), 2 Elizabeths (one of which is called Liza), a Rebecca, a Regina, and a Melanie.
Sorry for the super-long post, but I guess I just wanted to add my 2 cents--and also warn you to disregard the rude people who have the audacity to say mean things about your choices (and maybe me too, but I'm not trying to be rude). I wish I had had the ability to tune them out. Good luck!
Also, happy mother's day to you!
I love Annabelle too - for Poe's Annabelle Lee ... but then two days ago there was some new show with Katie Segal playing some horrible person called annabelle ... I love Anna Nicole too, but, good heavens, too much trashy baggage with it. Finley is really cute, and Fin for short. Harper was on my list a long time ago, I also like Piper - something musical about those names - maybe if she pops out as twins.
Yeah ... I'm just not settling on a name, i think, until i meet her ... then I won't let my husband go that night until we pick one ... maybe my boys can help me decide ... my 6 yr old wanted to mane her Rosebed or Flowerbed, but now dad has got him set on Sagan ... sigh sigh and sigh some more.
Perhaps one day, baby girl will be able to read all this indecision and laugh.
I forgot one name: Avery
